OUR HISTORY
After a highly successful career with some of South Africa’s top legal firms, Dr Nicolaas Marais decided that he had enough of the bureaucracy associated with bigger companies and set out on his own.
“I formed Marais Attorneys because in my experience clients tend to slip through the cracks in larger firms and I wanted to be able to provide them with the peace of mind of knowing that they will be well looked after by people who not only care, but who are also driven by results”.

His personal passion for flying has led to him becoming an authority on Aviation and Space Law.

After joining Marais Attorney’s in 2008, Jonathan swiftly moved up the ranks from Candidate Attorney to Partner. His extensive litigation experience in both High and Magistrates’ Courts has led to his appointment as Head of our Litigation Department. He is also adept at attending to divorces and divorce settlements and Labour Law.

Lufuno Sethagu
Candidate Attorney
Lufuno Sethagu is a candidate attorney who joined the firm in January 2022 to commence her articles of clerkship. She holds a Bcom Law degree from Pearson Institute of Higher Education and an LLB degree from the University of South Africa. Lufuno is currently being exposed to vast areas of the law in the firm and she is passionate about corporate law, labour law, family and divorce law. She regularly volunteers at an NGO named A Re Ageng Batsa which is aimed at catering to the needs of the elderly and the youth in disadvantaged areas.
